Barbara Lawrence "Where was Barbara Lawrence after the hurricane, you ask?" Barbara Lawrence is claiming that she "supervised" the Galveston Evacuees after the hurricane. In fact, Barbara Lawrence filled out an Expense Reimbursement indicating that she left with Galveston Evacuees to an Austin shelter during hurricane Ike. Barbara Lawrence is claiming that she "helped set up command post" at the Austin Shelter. An Open Records Request however, reveals that she stayed at Hilton Garden Inn in Austin as well as Motel 6. Barbara Lawrence was supposed to travel with the evacuees, but instead submitted a gas and total mileage bill of almost $500. Barbara Lawrence submitted expenses for $2,009.22 including numerous hotel bills, extensive restaurant bills for two (including her husband, Charles Lawrence), several bills from grocery stores, and several bills from Target where she charged the taxpayers for a Polo shirt and cargo pants. The evacuee indicated that Barbara Lawrence did not travel with the evacuees, nor did she supervise the evacuees. The evacuee indicated that Barbara Lawrence did not stay at the Convention Center where everyone else had to sleep on the floor as well as cots. Barbara Lawrence stayed in luxury hotels with her husband. Barbara Lawrence did not supervise the evacuees during the day. She would wake up and eat breakfast and basically be gone from 8 am to 5 pm every day. It looks like Barbara Lawrence had an extravagant getaway paid for by the taxpayers of Galveston. She also charged her husband's meals and lodging to the taxpayers! Barbara Lawrence makes at least $80,000.00 a year not including pension, car allowance, and other fringe benefits. This is an outrage! She has used public money for private purposes and the district attorney needs to prosecute immediately. The evacuee who provided this information to us would be happy to talk to the District Attorney of Galveston and sign an Affidavit.
Barbara Lawrence Duty Rosters, Time Sheets, Work Records, and other documents from 06/30/08 to 12/31/08 The records indicate that Barbara Lawrence comes in at 8 o'clock and leaves at 4 o'clock every day. The total hours per day that she claims she works is 8 hours from 8 AM to 4 PM. However, that time frame would also include her time spent during lunches. Therefore, the actual time worked is far less than 8 hours per day. Also, she billed the taxpayers for 14 to 16 hours per day for weeks and weeks immediately after hurricane Ike. Barbara Lawrence even billed the taxpayers for "Thanksgiving Vacation/Holiday" on 11/26/08, 11/27/08, 11/28/08, and 12/01/08. She is clearly abusing the taxpayers and billing the taxpayers illegally for the “Thanksgiving Vacation/Holiday”. Also, Lawrence billed the taxpayers for “Christmas Holiday” on 12/25/08, 12/26/08, and 12/29/08. Lawrence is clearly abusing the taxpayers and billing the taxpayers for “Christmas Holiday”. Unfortunately, the City of Galveston is being run by individuals who using public funds for private purposes which is illegal. Galveston taxpayers need to demand the district attorney prosecute these individuals who use public funds illegally.
